CDL College is Proud To Participate with the Colorado State Patrol for Operation Safe Driver

WHEN

Monday, October 20, 2014 at 10:00 am

WHY

Operation Safe Driver was created to help to combat the number of deaths
resulting from crashes involving large trucks, buses and cars. During
Operation Safe Driver Week, October 19-25, 2014, events will be held in the
United States, Canada and Mexico with the goal of increasing commercial
vehicle and non-commercial vehicle traffic enforcement; safety-belt
enforcement; driver roadside inspections; and driver regulatory compliance.
Since education is also an important component of Operation Safe Driver
Week, law enforcement and transportation safety officials will offer
educational and awareness safety programs to the motor carrier population
and the motoring public.

SPEAKERS

*         CVSA President Captain Bill Reese, Idaho State Police

*         Deputy Administrator Bill Bronrott, Federal Motor Carrier Safety
Administration

*         Chief Scott Hernandez, Colorado State Patrol

*         Brian Neal, Fedex Ground, Operation Safe Driver Program Chair

DETAILS

*         Members of the media are invited to witness a North American
Standard Level I Inspection conducted by a CVSA-certified member of law
enforcement, as well as a “No Zone” demonstration to indicate the areas
around large trucks and buses that create dangers for car and truck drivers.
The Level I Inspection is the most thorough roadside inspection. It is a
37-step procedure that includes an examination of both the driver and
vehicle. The officer will narrate the inspection process and answer any
questions about the inspection procedure. Both a truck and motorcoach
provided by Greyhound will be available at the event.

*         Members of the media can participate in a “ride-along.” Media
will go out on the highway in a commercial vehicle driven by a professional
truck driver, along with a member of law enforcement, to witness enforcement
actions taken against unsafe driving behaviors by other drivers around the
truck. The vehicle is being provided by CDL College in Commerce City,
Colorado.

*         The Colorado Motor Carriers Association will be hosting a cookout
for all attendees following the press conference, good-weather dependent.

Photo opportunities and individual interviews are available upon request.
