Driving in a city environment is a challenge for the driver. Lack of attention and limited peripheral vision impede the driver's ability to maneuver around fixed objects. Fixed-Object Incidents (FOI) are not the most costly incidents for a company; but, they are the most numerous.  FOI show a pattern of inattentiveness and lack of peripheral vision on behalf of a driver. A driver should be given training immediately following a FOI for four reasons:</span><br />

<li><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">An attempt to increase the driver's awareness to prevent future FOI. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">An attempt to reduce the risk of a future catastrophic incident. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">Counter Measures-Providing training to a driver after a FOI shows the FMCSA, insurance companies and (god forbid) a litigating attorney the willingness of the carrier to invest in training and the willingness to promote a culture of safety. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">Providing training to a driver, after a FOI, spreads throughout the driver population. The drivers may start a dialogue amongst themselves about the best practices regarding close quarters maneuvering. The drivers may even discuss <i>hotspots </i> on their local routes. They may share tips about how to approach specific stops along their routes. A driver dialogue is the best source way to prevent a FOI. </span></li>

Training is performed in a simulator, classroom and through live demonstrations while practicing on the driving range. In-the-field training (on location) can be added if desired. </span><br />

 -Read the situation. Scan at least 12-15 feet behind and to the sides of the vehicle. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">Drive or Back to the right. Drive or Back slightly to the right of center for better visibility in tight places. Avoid the blind side at all costs. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">Reduce your speed. If you see an approaching hazard:: reduce speed for more reaction time </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">Realign the vehicle. Re-position the vehicle to lessen impact or prevent a collision.</span></li>

 am now 58 years old And I am driving cross Country for us x-press.     I
 was on disability for Years due to having both Hips and both knees 
replaced, also had spurs removed From my shoulders.     I wanted to 
travel but Being on disability does not Give you a lot of money For that.   
  I did  volunteer work for The American Red Cross for A few years and 
loved it,I even went to a few disasters To help out.     But that did not
 help pay The bills. One day I was Reading a news paper and Saw an add on 
getting Your cdl for free because Stimulus money would Pay for it.   I went 
to <a href="http://www.cdlcollege.com/" target="_blank">CDL College</a> and after the training I ended up going to cr England, I am now A driver  For US Express.I pick up all my loads 
in Golden, CO and deliver all over The west to mid west, I am Only drop and 
hook and That is all right by me.     Don't let your medical History stop 
you, if you have High blood pressure and If it is control with meds thats
 ok with most company's They are worried by heart Problems and diabetic 
problems     They want you to be able To get in back of trailers to Secure
 the loads (I used to carry A step ladder with me but Now I can do it 
without one)     You do not need to know Anything about engines but You 
do need to know How to check the fluids and Other things twice a day But 
<a href="http://www.cdlcollege.com/" target="_blank">CDL College</a> will teach You.     I love my job I have Seen more of this 
country In the last three years then I did in the first fifty five 
years And I am loving it. </span><br />

 name is Merhawi, I have got my CDL from you, drove for swift

people's US DOT number and worked like that for some time. Since I was 
not satisfied with these companies, I decided to get my own motor 
carrier authority and I now drive for myself. All had happened with less
 than a year of possession my CDL.<br class="kix-line-break" />The job is very sensitive, but with a goal and vision everything is possible...life is a challenge anyway. </span><br />

Air Brake Test

 The air brake test is one of the few things on the pre-trip inspection that needs to be memorized. It is also the only automatic fail on the cdl test if not performed. There are basically 4 parts to remember.<br />
<br />
 1. Check the truck parking brake. Leave the truck parking brake set (yellow nob out) and the trailer brake released (red nob in). Now put the truck in gear and gently pull against the parking brake.<br />
<br />
 2. Check the service brake. Make sure the brakes are released (both nobs in), put in gear, and slowly pull forward to 5 mph. Now stop with the hands off the wheel and look for movement in the steering wheel. If it turns right or left the brakes are tighter on that side and need to be adjusted.<br />
<br />
 3. Check for leaks. With the engine turned off, hold the brake pedal down for 1 minute and look for no more than 4psi of pressure loss on the primary air gauge.<br />
<br />
4. Check the emergency systems in case of a leak. With the key on and the engine off, fan the brakes and lose the air pressure intentionally. The emergency light and buzzer should come on at 60psi, and the emergency spring brakes should come on (both nobs pop out) between 20 and 40 psi.<br />
<br />
 In summary, there are 4 parts to the brake test, Two with the truck running and two with it off. This test is crucial for the cdl exam, and should be used on a regular basis in the work place as well.<br />
